Chapter VI - The Return
Eric didn’t let go of the photograph immediately.
He stared at it fixedly.
As if he expected the image to change again right before his eyes.
Yara could hear the rain drumming against the windows and the irregular hum of the ceiling lights.
Nothing else.
The hallway remained silent.
Too silent.
"This isn't funny," she whispered.
Eric slowly looked up.
He looked worse than before.
Much worse.
"We weren't prepared for him to come back so soon."
Yara frowned.
"Come back? What are you talking about?"
Eric opened his mouth to answer.
But at that moment, something sounded in the office next door.
A dull thud.
Then another.
Like drawers being opened.
Yara automatically turned toward the wall.
The noise continued.
Metal scraping against metal.
Filing cabinets.
Someone was going through documents.
Eric took a step back.
"It can't be."
